Testimony for Market Kiosks in Chinatown

IMPORTANT NEWS: SHADE recently learned about the City's interest in the Market Kiosks developed during last year's Summer Institute (2015).  The proposed amendment to Bill 15 will implement the design to re-purpose existing trellis columns on Sun Yat-Sen and College Walk Malls to create market kiosks.

The kiosk was designed by reusing the existing trellis columns lining the street.  They could potentially be home to many local street vendors and businesses within the Chinatown community, which will stimulate economic growth and community interaction.

We would like to thank the support of the Chinatown community and the State of Hawai'i for allowing us to work with them for the duration of this project.

SHADE Institute as a Non-Profit Organization

Today makes history as the SHADE Institute is a certified non-profit charity organization.  As many of you know, SHADE was started a little over a year ago, with the intention to inspire, create and develop local communities.

We here at SHADE would like to extend our greatest thanks to all of you who have supported us through this process.  As promised, we will continue to strive in developing young minds and inspiring generations through our work.

SHADE at DURP Career Fair

If you missed it, yesterday was the UH Manoa Department of Urban and Regional Planning's Annual Career Fair.

This fair attracted several urban/regional planners, architects, landscape architects and engineers to Saunder's Hall.  Students were welcomed to meet, greet and interact with various firms from around the island, and potentially apply for a position.

SHADE advertised their annual Summer Institute for 2016, which will focus on the continuing Chinatown Urban Acupuncture, and the introduction to Celebrate Waipahu and the island of Kaua'i.

On behalf of SHADE, thank you to all who came out to support the Summer Institute. Applications are still being accepted until Sunday, March 27.
