RSVP for the 2nd Community Design Workshop!

On Thursday, July 22, 2021, SHADE Institute visited the Kānehili Community Park and talked with local residents about the upcoming Community Design Workshop. We also passed out fans (see below) to everyone to beat the summer heat! Thank you to everyone who came out and talked story with us!

With the current surge of COVID-19 cases statewide and on O'ahu, we will be transitioning the CDW to be fully online via Zoom to keep you and your 'ohana safe. If you cannot attend, a recording of the workshop will be available online.

We will still use the Kapolei Heritage Center to send out packets and snacks prior to the workshop. We will also set up models of two designs of your park that you can move around. You can come to the Kapolei Heritage Center before (9:00 - 9:45 AM) or after the workshop (12:15 to 1:00 PM)! Coming down to the Center is optional, but we highly recommend you come down!

Sign up at https://forms.gle/ipumYAMXL2nZEKJE7. Please RSVP by Thursday, August 12, 2021.

Concept Site Plan and Park Visualizations

Kanehili Community Association Park moves forward with design development! This uniquely Hawaiian park will have several features native to the islands such as a lei garden, Imu, Hula mound, and an area for native games such as Ulu Maika and Konane. Sustainability also takes shape with native planting of local trees and shrubbery as well as Solar PV Panels on several of the park’s buildings. The Community Center, found towards the center of the park, takes its form from native architecture while modern design maximizes air flow, light, and comfort in this unique gathering space. But that’s not all! Play features include a Basketball Court, Playground, Playfield, and even a Splashpad for the kids to cool off in under the hot Hawaiian sun!
