We are excited to invite you to our inaugural Master Architect Talk Story session, where we will celebrate the remarkable career of Sidney Snyder, Jr., set against the vibrant backdrop of Chinatown’s iconic King Liberty Center.
Sidney "Sid" Snyder became a licensed architect by the age of 25 and has been a pivotal force in shaping Hawai'i’s architectural landscape since 1957. His design dexterity and leadership at Ossipoff, Snyder, Rowland, and Goetz have left an indelible mark on landmark projects like Kahului Airport Terminal, the Palama Settlement Gym, and the Makai Chapel at Mililani Memorial Park. As a former president of AIA Hawaii, Sid was instrumental in leading the Regional Urban Design Assessment Team (RUDAT) that laid the groundwork for the redevelopment of Kaka'ako, a then low-slung industrial and residential area between downtown Honolulu and Ala Moana.
Moderating this session will be Dean Sakamoto, FAIA, Principal Architect of Dean Sakamoto Architects and Executive Director of SHADE Institute. Dean is the primary editor and author of the book, Hawaiian Modern: The Architecture of Vladimir Ossipoff. (Yale University Press in association with Honolulu Museum of Art, 2007, 2015).
